What is an Independent Contractor?

Many companies hire 'Independent Contractors' to sell their products and services. Actually, the word 'HIRE' is misleading. Independent Contractors are not considered employees and rarely get any company benefits or compensation other than commission for their sales. The upside to being an Independent Contractor is that you basically work for yourself.
